Hello all,
I'm seeking some practical advice. My dog was hit by a car yesterday and killed. I got there just too late. I said the Jewel In The Lotus over him and told him to find a good rebirth - a human rebirth, and did the same when we buried him.
Can I do anything else for my old friend?
Blessings,
Pip

Re: Things to do for a dead pet?
Fri, August 28, 2009 - 1:16 PMBill, I don't have any support for my practice at the moment, and I'm utterly new to the Way in any case, so I'm on my own with this one.
I'm going to recite the Heart Sutra for him now, and do 1000 Om mani padme hum daily for 40 days, dedicating the merit to my old mate. If I'd been expecting it I might be better prepared, but that's a lesson in itself, isn't it?
Thanks for replying.

I'm very sorry to hear of the death of your old mate! I know how dear a dog can be...
What was his name?
I will include him in my practice. -

That's so lovely of you. His name was Belgo. He was a 130lb Bouvier, the loveliest creature imaginable.
Blessings,
